NON-SURGICAL GUM TREATMENT

Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. There is a very shallow v-shaped crevice called a sulcus between the tooth and gums. Periodontal disease starts in the sulcus just bellow the gum line where it will attack the supporting foundation of your teeth. When the sulcus are damaged periodontal pocket will develop. The deeper this pocket becomes the more severe the disease will be. If the diseasesis left untreated it will lead to tooth loss and there is a possibility to cause other health problems such as hard disease, stroke, arthritis etc.  If this process is detected early the disease can be treated by so called non-surgical treatment. Some factors will increase the risk of developing periodontal disease these include neglected oral hygiene, smoking, dental restorations that became defective, systemic diseases such as diabetes, several medications.

Some of the alarming signs include bleeding gums, swollen tender gum, permanent teeth that are loose or changed position or persistent bad breath.

It is possible that you have no warning signs therefore regular cleanings and dental checkups are important in the prevention of periodontal disease. Early treatment will prevent the loss of teeth. The treatment will involve scailing and roothplaning with either systemic antibiotics or local antibiotics or disinfecting methods.
