Dental Health Related Resolutions
As we are beginning a new year, many of us are making resolutions to help better ourselves and our everyday lives.
Have you ever considered any dental health resolutions? Try these 3 small and simple goals below to help maintain good oral care:
- Improve Flossing and Brushing Habits
To insure proper oral hygiene, remember the “2 rule”; brush using a quality toothbrush at least twice a day for at least 2 minutes and switch out your toothbrush every 2 months. In addition to brushing, commit to a daily flossing regimen. Flossing is crucial to break-up the plaque that forms between your teeth and under the gumline. The new year is the perfect time to begin new flossing and brushing habits.
- Cut Back on Sugary Food and Beverages
It’s a new year so consider new foods for your pantry. Try adding healthier food and beverage alternatives to your diet, especially for snacks! There are many reasons as to why you should cut back on sugar, however, if you want to maintain good oral care you must watch your sugar intake. The more sugar you eat, the more acid that is building up on your teeth, which essentially leads to tooth decay.
- Stay on Top of Dental Appointments
Do you see your dentist at least twice a year? If not, make it a resolution of yours to schedule a cleaning and to continue to make follow up appointments! Even though your teeth could look and feel fine, it is still important to be visiting the dentist yearly. Routine visits help prevent oral disease or even disclose new existing diseases at early stages, which is why it is critical to look after your teeth and make it to these appointments.
