Why is orthodontic treatment important?
Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. A bad bite can also cause abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, difficulty in chewing and/or speaking, and excess stress on supporting bone and gum tissue. In addition to improving oral health, orthodontic treatment can provide the confidence that comes with a healthy, attractive smile for years to come.
When should children get an orthodontic check-up?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child get an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. By this age, orthodontists can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while baby teeth are still present. That’s important , because some orthodontic problems may be easier to correct if they are found early. Most orthodontic patients begin active treatment between ages 9 and 14.
Can adults benefit from orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment can be sucessful at almost any age. In fact, about one in every five orthodontic patients today is over age 18. Thanks to today’s smaller, less visible, more comfortable orthodontic appliances including ceramic (tooth colored) brackets and Invisalign, adults are finding treatment more appealing.[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONa60Bg9p14[/embedyt]
Dr. Bowman offers Invisalign, Invisalign Teen as well as treatment with metal and tooth colored braces.
Invisalign uses the latest technology to correct the positioning of misaligned teeth without braces. Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear, custom fit, removable aligners that apply a controlled amount of force to your teeth, causing them to straighten. As the name indicates, the trays are practically invisible; therefore, it is a highly esthetic way to get beautiful and healthy straight teeth.
Invisalign works by using a series of aligners that will move your teeth gradually until the end result is achieved. Each aligner is worn for two weeks, and then you will switch into a new one. Throughout the process, you will visit Dr. Bowman every four to six weeks to ensure treatment is progressing as planned. Once your treatment is complete, you will likely wear a clear retainer to ensure your new smile stays in place. Learn more.[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOgc0N0QQ6U[/embedyt]
